The Two Sides of the Coin: Tevez vs Shamrock Rovers

As the Europa League game between Spurs and Shamrock Rovers was coming to an end, The Hoops’ fans were singing, jubilant and extremely proud of their team’s performance against Premier League team Spurs! I had watched a team that oozed passion, determination and togetherness. This is the total opposite to what we all watched on Tuesday night.

Carlos Tevez showed us all what was wrong with football! A man that earns more in a month than Shamrock Rovers have as their budget.

Tonight I saw a team, owned by their fans, go to White Hart Lane and show no fear. They played as a team, everyone fought for one another and the supporters recognised this. Vocal throughout the game and putting the atmosphere at the usually electric Britannia Stadium to shame.

On Tuesday night I saw players that didn’t trust, respect or show any desire towards their manager, their club or their supporters. Carlos Tevez showed us all how spoilt and selfish footballers can really be. He proved all of the Man City haters right and has undone all the good work and progress they had made this season. We are no longer talking about two Manchester teams fighting for the title but the headlines surround a player that has been controversial since his arrival in England.

Two teams and sets of fans, both debuting in their respective competitions, will have very different emotions following their European adventures. Shamrock showed passion pride and determination, Tevez showed his true colours!

If I was given the choice between buying a season ticket for Manchester City or Shamrock Rovers I would choose the Irish Team. I would be much happier knowing that my money was going to the club I loved rather than to a greedy man that doesn’t care.

As much as this article does well to show football at both ends of the scale I think that saying you would prefer a season ticket at Shamrock Rovers & that the Shamrock Rovers fans are better than what Manchester City have to offer is non-sense. One player acting an idiot doesn’t mean that the rest of the squad are the same & I don’t know if you have ever seen the City fans but we always make the most of every situation. Bluemoon & other City songs could be heard throughout the game & I honestly felt proud hearing it in such a large stadium on such an amazing stage.

When it comes to the performance you are right in some aspects but not all, for the first 30 minutes City were out of this world, Bayern hardly got a touch but we were unable to keep it up & stay patient for longer. Saying that the team wasn’t together as a whole is wrong, its just that they lacked the experience as a unit etc… You also say that the players didn’t show trust, respect or show any desire towards their manager, their club or their supporters, other than Tevez acting an idiot & Dzeko being upset at being substituted how can you say that? What if both massive penalty shouts had been given? We could have been looking at a 2-2 draw!

Good article that is well written but on this occasion, I disagree!

  2. Cheers for the comment, much appreciated as it’s my first blog on the site.
My point regarding season tickets it that I would rather be associated with a team and club that have been a pleasure to watch this week and showed that part time footballers can deliver just as much passion and enjoyment as the boys in the premier league! I would just feel happier knowing that I wasn’t paying for players wages when they don’t care about the club and show disrespect to the manager, the shirt, and the fans!

I am not getting on City’s fans backs, since you have done the Poznan it’s been very entertaining to watch! They are very passionate and love their club. But can you really be happy paying for players such as Dzeko, Balotelli and Tevez when they spit their dummies out?

Mancini needs to take a stand. If he doesn’t then he won’t be in Manchester for much longer!

  3. Also just to add, it might only be one man on Tuesday night, but last year that was City’s captain! Not the professional I want my kids to look up to!

One performance doesn’t represent a full season & one person being an idiot doesn’t represent a full team. Balotelli seems to have knuckled down & Dzeko was simply upset at being substituted as he wanted to help his team!
