Moronic Minority Not Racist Majority

Yesterday I made the short trip to Craven Cottage for the FA Cup tie between Fulham and Charlton with the intention of focussing on a the Addicks central midfielder Danny Hollands who happens to be the cousin of a friend of mine.  Now whilst Dan did nothing to let lt himself or Charlton down despite the 4-0 deficit, another subject that has stolen the headlines of late reared its ugly head just a couple of rows behind me.

Seated in the front row of the Putney Stand just to the Keepers’ right of the goal I was enjoying the atmosphere of the Charlton supporters who turned out in full voice and I have to say as a majority were impecably well behaved.  Having reassured my girlfriend, who rarely attends games, during the train ride there, that disorder was a thing of the past and that the main body of fans were Dad’s and their kids, I was about to be contradicted 20mins into the first half when Kerim Frei found himself in possession on the left wing near the byline, just yards away from myself and the away support.  A good tackle by Charlton’s Chris Solly put an end to the threat but this was apparently not enough for one Charlton supporter who opted to berate the Fulham lad by yelling “av that you (F-word) black (C-word)”.  Now I am by no means ignorant to the fact that racism still exists in our country but I feel that this incident in particular exposes the complete lack of intelligence possessed by those responsible for opting to use a man’s colour against him in the process of delivering abuse. For one, Kerim Frei is not black, however, being of moroccan and turkish parentage he is not white either which, apparently satisfies the criteria for this moronic individual to label him as a “black (C-word)” rather than just the slightly more socially acceptable “(C-word)”.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are of course well educated individuals who partake in the sickening use of ethnic origin as a derogatory pass time through idiotic genralisation of differing cultures and communities (Diane Abbott take note), but in my opinion it is not simply a refusal to tolerate the fact that another human being is of different ethic origin to ones self but an inhability to understand that this should be totally irrelevnt when judging another person.  I’m glad to say I do not know this individual, nor would he be tolerated by my social circle if I did, but I am willing to bet this months rent on the fact that he is a moron.  Now this might strike anyone with an ounce of common sense as obvious but let me explain my understanding of the word moron.  Moron: incapable of using thought and deliberation to form ones own opinion and thus construct a valid point of view.  This guy has not sat and thought to himself about the pro’s and cons of the Turkish/Moroccan/Swiss nations (Frei grew up in Switzerland) and their views, actions or ethics as Countries of the world, he is not equipped with the brain cells to do so.  Even if he had, before drawing the conclusion that these nations were jointly responsible for some horendous crimes against humanity, could he then ascertain that Frei himself was an activist leading the SwissTurCcan army in its genocidal destruction of the rest of the world? Lets assume that the answer to this is no.  More likely he was repeating the words of another idiotic member of his social circle without any true understanding of the sickening value assigned to his selection of vocabulary.  I’m granting him this assumption because 25 minutes later I deliberately observed him joining in the chorus of “Chrissy Powell’s Red Army” as Charlton’s black manager headed towards the tunnel.

As I said I am in no doubt that racism exists in England, but I think the greater problem is the lack of intelligence possessed by a minority, too weak minded to think for themselves who instead opt to regurgitate garbage previously vocalised by the likes of the EDL, BNP and the rest of the unevolved morons.  At the risk of being a hypocrite having mentioned my disgust at those who discriminate against others, I hope you’ll forgive me when I say the only time it is acceptable is when confronted with the scum responsible for victimising those of differing ethnic origin. I think it is time for the right minded public to make it clear that this will not be tolerated and either take the steps to ensure these people are dealt with by the authorites or collectively shout them down (assuming the guilty are capable of understanding shame). England and it’s diversity is something to be proud of and our favourite passtime should reflect this.  The players and their clubs have a responsibility to reinforce the importance of equality and nearly all of them do and very vocally, but the propensity of the media to focus on those who let down the collective (thats you Liverpool) means the morons are indirectly being granted an amplified voice that fails to truly represent the masses.  The football crowds of this country are immensely gifted in their wit and resultant ability to produce hilariously clever chants, an attribute I think we should utilise to shame the morons and #shoutthemdown whenever they dare peak out of the cave they have been living in whilst the rest of the world evolved.
