If there’s one thing that probably frustrates MK Dons’ fans, it’s that despite nearly always finishing in the play-off positions, they can’t quite seem to make it over the final hurdle.
Karl Robinson is one of the best young managers in the country and the squad as a whole is pretty solid. This summer, he’s added experience to the squad in the shape of Alan Smith and Jon Otsemobor, so hopefully they’ll be able to use their knowledge to help some of the younger players to get to that next step.
Chris Read (@ChrisRead85) thinks that MK Dons should aim for automatic promotion
How did last season measure up, compared to your expectations?
Personally I think we exceeded expectations last season, although everyone was disappointed to go out it the play off semi finals given the money we spent (or didn’t spend) and the budget we stuck to I think last season was a big success.
What do you think of your club’s summer transfer activity, are there more arrivals/exits on the horizon?
Despite the footballing world thinking we have some huge budget to play with just because we play in a fantastic stadium, we don’t! Therefore sensible transfer deals are the key and Karl Robinson does a fantastic job in recruiting players who will impact and improve the squad. This season the chairman has backed Karl and stretched the budget to its limit, its almost one big push for promotion! We have signed quality in my opinion, the arrival of Ryan Lowe is exciting, we hope he could be the 20 goal a season player we’ve lacked, we’ve finally signed a right back ( Jon Otsemobor) a position we found difficult to fill last season. Anthony Kay has come in from Huddersfield another proven player at this level and a solid centre back. We also secured Alan Smith on a permanent deal after his shock loan spell last year. He adds do much to the squad through his experience passion and enthusiasm and will have a massive impact on our season. We’ve also been busy recruiting behind the scenes, after John Gorman retired last season it was a big question who would step in the legends position. Karl has again picked someone with great experience (Mick Harford) to join as his number 2 whilst also bringing in Ian Wright in a coaching role.
What would be a dream new season for you?
Simply achieving promotion is the aim and that coupled with a decent cup run resulting in a nice away trip to a ‘big’ club would top it off!
What would be your worst nightmare?
Missing out via the play offs for a 3rd year running!
Who will be your most important player(s) this season?
Ryan Lowe – I’m backing him to be our goal machine
Darren Potter – The man who gets little recognition yet constantly pulls the strings
Any players you would happily see the back of?
Nope, Karl Robinson doesn’t do ‘dead wood’ we simply have a small strong squad bursting with quality.
Do you have the best manager for the job?
Without a doubt! As an overall package there aren’t many better out there!
Opposition players that you respect?
Izale Mcleod – an ex ‘legend’ of ours has just signed for Pompey
Alan Navarro (Swindon) Quality player and an ex MK Dons player
Opposition players that you despise?
I’m guessing most will put Lee Hughes as the response here!
Best away fans/ground in your league?
Looking forward to Portsmouths visit, they will have a fantastic following and also looking forward to visiting Fratton Park. Coventry is another new away ground I’m looking forward to visiting.
Which teams do you really want to beat this season?
Sheff United, Bournemouth, Crawley, Coventry and Swindon, see that lot off and you’ve got to be in with a chance!
Finally, where do you honestly think you will finish?
2nd
