Season Preview 2012-13 – Burton Albion Interview

The Brewers are tipped by a few as potential relegation candidates for the coming season. Manager Gary Rowett will be hoping the club can progress under his leadership after a 17th placed finish last time out. The signing of Lee Bell from newly-promoted Crewe Alexandra could be vital for Burton’s League Two campaign.
It’s Round and It’s White spoke to Burton fan Lee Milligan (@TheLeeMilligan) to get his lowdown on Burton’s chances this season.
How did last season measure up, compared to your expectations?

Our expectations were mid table comfort, but when we were 4th at christmas we began to think of playoffs-but due to an awful dip in form and 3 strikers getting injured, we plummeted to near the foot of the table and after a change of manager, survived with a few games to spare.

What do you think of your club’s summer transfer activity, are there more arrivals/exits on the horizon?

I think the guys who have arrived are of a higher calibre and have settled in to the squad very quickly, so I’m very happy with them. I think there will be one or two more additions.

What would be a dream new season for you?
Mid table to pushing for play offs is a reasonable goal, any more than that and i will be very happy. We have a few long term injuries, it will be brilliant when they are back fit again too.

What would be your worst nightmare?

Relegation! Not an option.

Who will be your most important player/s this season?

With a new back 4, new keeper, 2 new players in midfield and fully fit strikers, the new boys need to gel quickly. Pre-season has shown this is happening already.

Any players you would happily see the back of?

No.

Do you have the best manager for the job?

I think we do yes, he was our number 2 for the last few seasons and knows the players well, add that to wanting to change things completely from the previous manager with a new assistant, things are looking up.

Opposition players that you respect?

The ones that play by the rules and play the game in the right spirit.

Opposition players that you despise?

The ones that dive and roll around pretending to be shot to con the referee.

Best away fans/ground in your league?

Im always impressed by Accringtons travelling support-often a small bunch but sing all game long and a decent drummer too, makes for a better atmosphere.

Which teams do you really want to beat this season?

Northampton and Rotherham.

Finally, where do you honestly think you will finish?
I reckon mid table, but if the lads fight all game long then play offs.
