Season Preview 2012-13 – Exeter City Interview

An awful turn of form during the latter part of last season saw Exeter City relegated from League One, and the West Country club have had to cut their cloth accordingly this summer. Many regular names such as Richard Duffy and David Noble amongst others have left the club whilst new signing and former loanee Alan Gow remained with club despite admitting to temptations of moving back to Rangers.
It’s Round and It’s White spoke to Exeter fan Martin Woodgates (@modeymart) to measure up his expectations for the club back in League 2 this season.
How did last season measure up, compared to your expectations?
I didn’t expect relegation, that’s for certain. I remained positive about a mid-table finish right up until it became obvious that we were doomed for the drop.
What do you think of your club’s summer transfer activity, are there more arrivals/exits on the horizon?

Overall I think Tisdale has done well to begin to rebuild the squad, Oakley was a good catch as he does the simple things well. I’m not sure we will see any more arrivals or exits now.

What would be a dream new season for you?
Doing the double over Torquay and Argyle, and then sealing promotion.
What would be your worst nightmare?
Argyle and Torquay doing the double over us, and relegation to rub it in.
Who will be your most important player/s this season?
Oakley and Cureton, and its about time John O’Flynn stepped up to the mark too.
Any players you would happily see the back of?
I think our problem last year was we played too much like individuals and not as a team. The main culprits of that have now left the club.
Do you have the best manager for the job?
We have the best manager in the lower leagues. Full stop. Many teams would love to have a manager of his quality
Opposition players that you respect?
David Noble and Dan Nardiello at Rotherham, and grudgingly Paul Wooton
Opposition players that you despise?
Paul Wooton because hes Argyle through and through
Best away fans/ground in your league?
It’s hard to tell until we play in it.
Which teams do you really want to beat this season?

Argyle at least twice (home and away league) and maybe in the cup too

Finally, where do you honestly think you will finish?
I think we might just sneak the playoffs
