In January there were major talks of a move for Spanish attacking midfielder Bojan Krkic from Stoke City. Being linked with numerous clubs in Spain and heavily linked with Middlesbrough.
There were some niggling issues with Bojan as he wanted more playing time at Stoke. Being used consistently as a substitution most of the time, there were many concerns about his future with the club.
Although Bojan seemed to be enjoying his time at Stoke with an odd goal here and there, he wasn’t fully convinced about his time on the pitch anymore and decided it was time to move on. In the three seasons Bojan has been with stoke he has played 60 games scoring 15 times.
This season Bojan only managed to make nine appearances for “The Potters”. This lead interest from many clubs and 1. FSV Mainz 05 were the ones to snap him up on a loan deal until the end of the season. This move for Bojan will probably give him a fresh start and hopefully, he can get some playing time again.
This will be the first time Bojan plays in the Bundesliga so it will be a new test for him. Having played in La Liga, Serie A, Eredivisie and the Premier League he will take what he has learned over the years with him from his experience.
Joining a team in mid-table position half way through the season, Bojan will feel he has something to contribute to Mainz 05’s final league position. They are currently in 10th place and are seven points ahead of relegation, eight points behind qualification for Europa League and nine points behind qualification for Champions league.
If Bojan has great success in Germany it could be a key point in his career so far. With a history of repeated loans out from Barcelona, Roma and now Stoke, there is a chance to prove the critics of his abilities. If he plays well enough it could earn him a permanent move to the Bundesliga or even spark interest elsewhere.
This is a dilemma for a player of such calibre. If he plays well in the Bundesliga will Mainz 05 want him back on a permanent deal? Will bigger clubs eye him up in the Bundesliga? Will other clubs abroad be interested in him? But if he does perform well what plans does Stoke City boss Mark Hughes have for him?
After this season Bojan could be playing anywhere and nobody knows exactly where he could end up. Many Stoke City fans would like Bojan to stay but would probably accept if he feels it is time to move on. The only thing to watch out for now is how he performs at Mainz 05.
Everywhere Bojan has gone, there has been much expectation as he played a lot of time at Barcelona. He was dubbed as the “New Messi” giving him a huge reputation in Spain. Since leaving Barcelona his career hasn’t been as expected but it also hasn’t been a major flop.
All stoke fans and many others would wish him the best for the rest of the season and hopefully, he can have a great season with Mainz 05. How do you think he will do in the Bundesliga? Also, where do you think Bojan Krkic could end up at the end of the season?
