Bayern Munich and other football clubs were a bit shocked at the start of the season when RB Leipzig was top of the Bundesliga. This was a surprise to many as Leipzig had just been promoted in the previous campaign.
Leipzig had been at the top of the table for some time and there was much media attention as Bayern weren’t in the usual limelight. It wasn’t until around February that Leipzig started to slip up. Bayern has been keen to take advantage and knock them from the top spot. They are now on top as Leipzig have lost their form.
In the last four games, Bayern Munich hasn’t conceded and have scored an incredible 15 goals. This includes an 8-0 thrashing against relegation-threatened Hamburger SV.
With Bayern in flying form at this moment, Leipzig are having their worst run of the season so far. No wins in the last 3 matches and only 1 point. Leipzig have only managed to score 2 goals, as well as conceding 6 times. Leipzig will be relying heavily on German striker Timo Werner this season who already has 14 goals. At the age of just 21, he is one of Germany’s hottest prospects.
Bayern Munich have really turned up their game and they have boosted their team play to the next level in the Bundesliga. Robert Lewandowski is in fine form with 21 goals from 25 games. Arjen Robben is still a key contributor with 8 goals and 5 assists. Thomas Muller may only have 2 goals this season but he leads the league in assists with 10.
Another player still contributing to the team is Franck Ribery. The Frenchman still shows great class and finesse at the age of 33. He has contributed to 3 goals and 7 assists. This is just another example that shows how much of a well-gelled team Bayern Munich are and that they play as a team.
Excluding the goalkeepers, Bayern have 24 players in the squad. Out of these 24, 6 haven’t featured so far. How about this for a fact. Out of the 18 outfield players that have played for Bayern Munich this season, only 2 of them haven’t scored. These are Jerome Boateng and Renato Sanches. It would definitely be something to talk about if they could get themselves on the scoresheet by the end of the season.
This leaves us to Bayern’s main goalkeeper. Manuel Neuer has been the first-choice keeper in Bavaria for many years and there is a reason why he is one of the best in the world. His style of play is described as a sweeper keeper. If a through ball is played through Bayern’s defence he will be there to clear the ball. At the age of 30, he still has plenty of time left at the top level.
Bayern Munich’s squad is full of experienced players. As well as players already mentioned there is Philipp Lahm, Xabi Alonso, Rafinha, and Mats Hummels just to name a few. These sort of players are born winners and most of them have won major trophies albeit with a different club, previous seasons with Bayern and even at International level.
Now that Bayern are 13 points ahead of Leipzig in 2nd place, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have surely secured themselves the title. Their next games are up against Augsburg and Hoffenheim. This gives Bayern a great chance to stretch the gap between themselves and Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig.
