3 games to watch during Tuesday's UEFA Champions League action

Tuesday 21st November 2017

Week five of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage is here. And as it has been the case all season long, here we have three games you shouldn't miss during Tuesday's slate of matches.

Besiktas vs FC Porto

Besiktas have been one of the best teams in the UEFA Champions League this season, and are sitting at top of Group G with 10 points from four matches. They have a four-point advantage over second-placed FC Porto, and both sides will meet this Tuesday in Turkey with a Round of 16 berth on the line.

Besiktas have the clear edge since they are undefeated in their first four games, plus FC Porto has struggled with consistency so far. But the Portuguese side knows how to play these games, so it's not going to be a walk in the park for the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions. There is a chance both teams qualify, though, because if Porto wins and Monaco defeats RB Leipzig, then both Porto and Besiktas would clinch their berths to the next round. This is certainly a game worth watching because the development of Monaco vs Leipzig could have quite an impact here.

Borussia Dortmund vs Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur has already clinched a spot in the Round of 16, but they are not happy with that. They want to secure the first spot in Group H, and they could accomplish that feat with a win against Borussia Dortmund. The Spurs clearly have the edge on paper, but one should never count out the German giants, especially if they are playing at their home venue of Signal Iduna Park. Can Tottenham pull another upset in what has been a magical European campaign for them so far?

Granted, Dortmund has not had the best results of late and one could say they are struggling to get the job done on both the domestic and European fronts. But this team is simply too talented to keep losing like they have been doing it of late. It might be too late for them to reach a spot on the Round of 16, but a win against Tottenham would go a long way towards taking another step for a UEFA Europa League berth. That's all they can hope for, because Real Madrid is not going to lose to APOEL. A shocking defeat from Los Merengues would be the only way Dortmund would have a shot at making the Round of 16, but the chances of that happening are slim - at best.

Napoli vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Shakhtar Donetsk has been one of the biggest surprises in the UEFA Champions League this season and currently sit in second place of Group F with nine points after four matches. They only need one point in their remaining two games to clinch a berth on the next round, although they will endure a complicated match this Tuesday since they will travel to Italy to take on Napoli at Stadio San Paolo.

Napoli are in a tough spot they wouldn't have imagined since they only have three points after two losses against Manchester City and dropping their game against Shakhtar on Ukraine as well. The Serie A giants have their backs against the wall, but Shakhtar are not an easy opponent by any means. Their counter-attacking style and pacey offence - led by potential Premier League target Bernard - could complicate things for Napoli. The Italian side not only need to be at their best, but they also need to score quickly if they want to get a positive result since Shakhtar are likely to play very defensive if they are getting a point midway into the second half.
