4 Manchester United youth players who can restore the glory days

Sunday 22nd July 2018

It’s been some time since Manchester United's youth prospects had everyone excited. Obviously, there’s a new wunderkind every year, but a real talent persists and has the ability to eventually mature.

Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford snuck up on us, leaving the Class of 1992 as United’s most famous academy batch. Sir Alex Ferguson replaced first-team players with Phil and Gary Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. Those six ushered in an era of glory and set the backbone of the team for years to come.

Although there have been other players who trickled into top-flight football, it’s been some time since a group of youngsters showed exceptional promise. If there has been a set since '92, it was Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison and Jesse Lingard.

Thanks to the World Cup, Jose Mourinho has been forced to take a group of youth players with him for the preseason. This might serve the perfect opportunity for these players to blossom. In five years, they might form the backbone of the next world-beater. Let’s take a deeper look.
