5 players Championship sides should loan before Deadline Day
Championship clubs are aiming to bolster their squads before Wednesday's transfer deadline. Expect plenty of activity right up until the window slams shut at 11pm. The race against time is on.
Some Premier League youngsters are keen to gain more playing time. A move out on loan to a second-tier team offers a solution. Championship sides would be strengthened without having to splash the cash on transfer fees.
Here are 5 Premier League players who Championship teams should try to loan over the coming days.
Chuba Akpom's Arsenal career is at a standstill. Despite being tipped for a big future at the Emirates, he has failed to break into the first team.
Akpom has previously had spells on loan at Hull City and Brighton and Hove Albion. He also won promotion from the Championship twice. The 22-year-old needs another move this month to rekindle his career. He would prove a decent signing for a team with top division ambitions.
Kasey Palmer is expected to leave Chelsea on loan this month. The possibility to sign him has left many Championship clubs on red alert, particularly Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Chelsea is renowned for loaning out young talents. Lewis Baker, Jeremie Boga, Tomas Kalas and Michael Hector are all currently playing in the second tier. With the reigning English champions eager to see youngsters gain first-team minutes, Palmer could be next to depart Stamford Bridge.
Palmer spent last season on loan at Huddersfield Town, helping David Wagner's side gain promotion. The 21-year-old midfielder made 27 appearances for the Terriers before extending his deal into this season. He was recalled by Chelsea, however, after playing only four Premier League games this campaign.
Palmer can't miss the chance to go out on loan again. Championship teams should be queuing up.
Another Chelsea youngster who should go out on loan in the coming days. Charly Musonda is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and could be an important player in the future. A period in the Championship, though, would help the Belgian midfielder gain valuable experience.
Musonda spent last season on loan with La Liga side Real Betis. He found it difficult to nail down a first-team spot, however. The 21-year-old needs to start more matches. He would be a huge addition for all top Championship sides.
Oliver McBurnie's loan move from Swansea City to Barnsley fell through last summer. Although it was a blow for the striker, a switch in this transfer window remains a possibility.
McBurnie signed for the Swans in July 2015 from Bradford City. He's since made 17 appearances, but the 21-year-old hasn't become a first-team regular.
Standing at 6''2, McBurnie is a real handful for defences. His game would definitely suit the Championship. A number of clubs will be sniffing around before Deadline Day.
Many thought Sam McQueen would break into Crystal Palace's first team this season, but he remains on the fringes. The 22-year-old needs playing time, move to a Championship side is the best answer.
McQueen's versatility would make him a shrewd signing. He has been linked with Reading recently. If other clubs are interested in the talented winger/left back, then they must act quickly to complete the deal.
