5 players who Paul Lambert should sign for Stoke City
The news that Premier League side Stoke City have appointed Paul Lambert as their new manager has certainly raised some eyebrows. He has a very difficult job on his hands with the Potters currently sitting in the bottom three and the prospect of relegation to the Championship is real at the moment. Nevertheless, Stoke have some talented players and have enough to get out of trouble. They also need a bit of help in the transfer market and need to inject some more energy and youth into what is quite an ageing squad. Here are 5 players who Paul Lambert should try and sign for Stoke.
The 24 year-old has been in fine form for Bristol City this season and would be a great signing for Stoke City. He has bagged 14 goals for the Robins in all competitions this season and has genuine quality. He has been transformed by Bristol City manager Lee Johnson from a midfielder into a striker. Although he is not an out and out forward, he would be good for Stoke to play alongside Peter Crouch as his pace and energy causes problems for Championship defenders. He is capable of making the step up to the Premier League in my opinion and Stoke should swoop for him.
This one may surprise you but Stoke should swoop for Everton striker Oumar Niasse. He will apparently be allowed to leave the Toffees this January and he would be a decent signing for the Potters. He has scored 5 goals in 7 games for Everton this season in the league and also got 4 goals for Hull City on loan in the last campaign. He is a very unorthodox striker but his unpredictability makes him a real handful and he always gives 100% in every game which you need in a relegation battle.
The 21-year-old currently plays for Paul Lambert's old team Norwich City. He should try and sign him for Stoke. Maddison is an attacking midfielder who has been in decent form for Norwich in the Championship this season. Stoke need some more options going forward and he would be ideal for them. He has scored 7 goals in 25 league appearances for the Canaries so far in this campaign. He will not be cheap though but Stoke will have to put their hands in their pocket if they want to stay up.
The 24-year-old Dutch midfielder only joined Everton in the summer but has hardly played for them. He was very impressive in his six years with them and would be a great signing for Stoke as he has a point to prove in England. He has only played 4 times in the Premier League for the Toffees this season and I think Stoke should try and loan him for the rest of the season. He again would give them another dimension in midfield and some more energy.
He has scored 11 goals so far this season for Augsburg and is the 3rd top goal scorer in the Bundesliga so far this season behind Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. His goals have been crucial to Augsburg's campaign and he would be a decent coup for a Premier League side. He is a goal scorer and will cost a lot of money which could rule Stoke out. However, if the board were willing to back Lambert to sign a striker, then he should look no further than Finnbogason.
