Andre Villas-Boas Set For Stamford Bridge Return

Monday 20th June 2011
After it was looking like Guus Hiddink would get the vacant Chelsea job, Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to get the job. A Portugese news agency broke the story that the former Chelsea scout would return to Stamford Bridge, but it has now emerged that Porto have not been offered enough money. There is a €15 million (£15 million) release fee clause in Villas-Boas' contract, but Chelsea haven't offered enough to trigger this.

It is believed that Villas-Boas has agreed a move to Chelsea, so it's simply a case of Chelsea making an improved offer for the manager. The Portugese club have released the following statement. "To date, this company has not received any communication that this clause will be exercised."

If or when Villas-Boas is appointed as Chelsea manager, this will not entirely rule out another Stamford Bridge return, this time for Guus Hiddink. He has been reportedly been told he can take the role of director of football. It is not yet known whether Villas-Boas or Hiddink with be happy with such an arrangement, but i'm sure we'll find out soon.

Chelsea want to complete the deal within the next week, to be ready for the opening of the summer transfer window.
