Arsenal set to increase record bid for Kylian Mbappé

Tuesday 6th June 2017
Arsenal have had a club record fee rejected for Kylian Mbappé. The Gunners offered AS Monaco £87m for the teenage sensation but it was deemed not worthy enough. Now the 18-year old is set to be subject to a bidding war over the summer, as every top European club wants his signature. Arsène Wenger has now added his name to the hat, in emphatic fashion.

Arsenal fans, perhaps this is the summer that things finally change? We saw how last summer Arsène Wenger spent over £90m on signings, this summer he's lobbied that sum on one player alone. Arsenal's initial club record bid was first reported by French media outlet, L'Equipe.

Many will argue that it's nonsensical for Arsenal to bid £87m when Real Madrid have already had a £105m bid rejected a few weeks ago. But new details reveal that Arsenal's bid, in fact, offered more cash up front than the one of Madrid's which consisted more of incentive schemes and performance-related bonuses.

It's now said that the Gunners are thinking of upping their bid for the teenager. After their £87m bid was rejected, Arsène Wenger and his men will table an offer of £95m.
Before the end of the season, Monaco's Vice-President Vadim Vasilyev labelled Kylian Mbappé as ‘priceless'. But that seemingly wasn't the case for star attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva who recently signed for Manchester City for £43m and it's said that Pep still wants their left-back, too. Thomas Lemar is also subject to interest from Manchester United and Arsenal, while Tiemoue Bakayoko is getting tapped up by Paris Saint-Germain. This only increases the importance for Monaco to keep hold of Mbappé this summer.

The possibility of the world's most sought-after teenager coming to the Emirates doesn't seem that far-fetched when you look at the character of the youngster. Kylian Mbappé is on record saying that Thierry Henry is his footballing idol and he always watches Arsenal in the Premier League.

With Arsène Wenger being the French icon he is, the 67-year old's presence could be a major bargaining factor. Let's also factor in the notion that Kylian Mbappé would walk into Arsenal's first XI, whilst he would struggle for a bench spot at the Bernabéu.
From an Arsenal perspective, it's hard to think what has changed in the space of 12 months that makes Wenger feel confident of landing Mbappé. Arsenal can't even offer him Champions League football now, Monaco can.

Arsenal were in advanced talks with Monaco last summer but negotiations broke down over the youngster's playing time. It's alleged that Wenger could have signed the wonderkid for just £230,000 last year. Now the teenager is a superstar with a highly inflated price tag.

With Arsenal making such high-profile bids, does this all but confirm the departure of Alexis Sanchez. Perhaps the Frenchman is being targeted to fill the goalscoring hole left by the Chilean. Alexis Sanchez reportedly has offers on the table from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Or we can think positively and say that Arsène Wenger is looking to add to his squad filled with world class players. Either way, it's going be a very interesting transfer window for Arsenal fans.
