Assessing the teams in the League One playoffs

Thursday 4th May 2017
It's come to that time of the season where we see which teams have been relegated or promoted. We also see what teams are capable of playoff places. Most leagues still have games left but League One has pretty much all been decided this season.

The end of the season is upon us and we always get excited for the playoffs even if our own team isn't involved. This gives us a great chance to see what certain teams are capable of before potentially getting promoted. Now that League One has finished this season we know what teams will be in the playoffs.

Scunthorpe United managed to finish third this season and they couldn't have finished on a better note. A 3-1 win against Coventry City secured their fifth win in a row. This means that Scunthorpe will be entering their playoff ties with good momentum. Their key player to watch will be Josh Morris. He has 19 goals so far this season and will be wanting to make sure Scunthorpe secure their promotion campaign.
Fleetwood Town is the next team in the playoffs finishing fourth. Uwe Rosler's side finished the season being unbeaten in four games. They drew their last game 0-0 with Port Vale. Their main player to keep an eye out for is David ball. The forward has 14 goals in his 46 appearances this season for "the trawlermen".

Fleetwood has been a team with contributors from all parts of the field. This shows where they finished as even some of their defenders have scored this season too. The likes of Cian Bolger and Conor McLaughlin have themselves a couple of goals each.

Bradford City finished fifth this season in League One and finish unbeaten in four games. They contributed three consecutive wins but only drew after 1-1 to Rochdale on the final day. Despite this final result, they are left seven points inside the playoffs. Their squad includes the likes of Charlie Wyke and Billy Clarke. They will have great assets up front ready for the playoffs but how ready will they be?

Millwall is the final team that have clinched the playoffs this season in League One. They only just managed to scrape through on the final day though. An 85th-minute winner from Shaun Hutchinson secured Millwall's promotion hopes yet again after a nailbiting game to win 4-3 against Bristol Rovers. Southend United who was below Millwall were winning. This meant that Millwall had to win. They only managed it with five minutes left.
The League One playoff semi-finals kick off tonight at 7:45 P.M. Bradford City will be at home against Fleetwood Town and Millwall will be at home to Scunthorpe United. The reversed fixtures will then be played on Sunday at 18:30 P.M.

It will definitely be interesting to watch as any football fan would know. The playoffs are important as it shows a time where fans are full of hopes and dreams that their beloved team can get a promotion at the very last stage.

Bradford and Millwall will be playing in the League One playoffs for the second season in a row. Millwall lost in the final to Barnsley last season but can redeem themselves this year.

For my sins, I'm a season ticket holder at Stoke City, I have been proud to watch them for over 20 years. I follow most of the UK leagues and the major European ones too, and I've been told that I talk way too much about football.
