Ballack Snubs Farewell Match

Sunday 19th June 2011
German coach Jaochim Loew decided a few weeks that he would no longer use the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder in any international games, but rather give a number of talented youngsters a shot at making in the team.

Ballack was offered a 99th and final appearance for Germany in a friendly match against Brazil. But he has hit out and called the whole idea a "farce". He feels as though he has been treated with total disrespect.

The Bayern Leverkusen man hit out a Loew saying:

"The style and content of the statement (by Loew) are unfortunately exactly like the way he (has) treated me since my serious injury last summer.

"To call a friendly match that was arranged long ago a farewell match is a farce in my opinion. I know I owe my fans this match but I cannot accept the offer."

Having given so much for his country Ballack is entirely justified in the way he feels. But for a player of his quality, it is a poor way to end is international career (in which his last match was a 1-0 loss to Argentina way back in March, in a friendly)
