Bayern Munich's latest signing: Who is Alex Timossi Andersson?

Sunday 29th October 2017
Bayern Munich constantly track the transfer market in an effort to acquire young talent from all over Europe. Alex Timossi Andersson is their latest coup.

There is no doubt Bayern Munich is among the biggest clubs in Europe. The Bundesliga giants maintain their status by constantly seeking new talent. However, their search is not limited to first-team players. Bayern remains committed to bolstering its youth ranks. Occasionally, they dust off a gem who will feature in their first team.

That's exactly what happened this past Friday. The Rekordmeister signed one of the best U17 forwards in Europe, possibly the world.
Alex Timossi Andersson, a 16-year-old Swedish forward, currently plays for Helsingborg in the Swedish Superettan, the country's second division.

This wasn't the first chance Andersson had to leave Helsingborg. A few months ago, he underwent trials with Manchester United and Bayern. After taking his time, the Swede opted for the Allianz Arena.

Shifting from the Swedish Superettan to the German Bundesliga is quite a big move. Fortunately, he will have enough time to prepare himself mentally and physically for the transfer.

Andersson will join Bayern in 2019, when he turns 18. The Bavarians want to continue his development in an environment where he can feel comfortable. While there isn't much data on the teenager, there is impressive footage of him at work. Andersson is a player worth watching closely in the next few years. Talented and versatile, he can play a number of roles in the attacking third.
It's difficult to imagine where he will play once he joins Bayern. At some point, he will have to make adjustments to his game. The youngster profiles better as a right winger, but has played second striker as well.

Andersson joined Helsingborg's first-team in January.  He has two goals. Considering he will remain with the club until 2019, a reasonable expectation for him would be to play almost 100 games in Helsingborg's first team before leaving the side. That's a huge amount of experience for an 18-year-old player, regardless of club's current level.

Andersson also has experience with the Swedish National Team. The talented forward has featured for the U15s (four games, six goals) and U16s (seven games, two goals). He has looked dominant at both levels.

A promotion to Sweden's U17 or even U19 side seems likely in the near future. Sweden have been looking for an attacking weapon since Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired. There is every chance Andersson will be fast-tracked.

He is a prospect worth keeping an eye on. It wouldn't be surprising to see him making headlines sooner than later. The talent is there for Alex Timossi Andersson to be among the top young strikers in Europe in a few more years.
