Can Häcken boost their top-three hopes with a win over relegation-threatened Sundsvall?

Sunday 13th August 2017
BK Häcken welcome GIF Sundsvall to the Rambergsvallen in the Swedish Allsvenskan on Monday evening and are favourites to pick up all three points to strengthen their chances of a top-three finish this season.

Sundsvall are expected to be no match for the hosts given their woeful away and poor first-half to the season. So will the upcoming fixture be a foregone conclusion?

Häcken back to form at the perfect time

Mikael Stahre's Häcken side were three points adrift of the top-three before the weekend's round of games, and are in good form ahead of Monday's clash to suggest they can get a result against Sundsvall. Häcken have won two and drawn of their last four games in the Swedish Allsvenskan but have struggled for consistency on home soil surprisingly.

Hacken's last four Allsvenskan games

  • 17/7/17: Joenkoepings Soedra 0-1 Häcken

  • 22/7/17: Sirius 2-2 Haecken1

  • 31/7/17: Häcken 1-1 Orebro

  • 6/8/17: Hammarby 1-2 Häcken

Hacken's last six home games in the Allsvenskan

  • 5/5/17: Häcken 2-2 Sirius

  • 17/5/17: Häcken 2-1 Halmstads BK

  • 29/5/17: Häcken 0-1 Oestersunds FK

  • 3/7/17: Häcken 2-0 Hammarby

  • 8/7/17: Hacken 0-1 Malmoe FF

  • 31/7/17: Häcken 1-1 Orebro

A lack of clean sheets is certainly' Häcken's problem going into Monday's encounter. The Swedish outfit has shut out just one side in the league in the past three months. But thankfully for the hosts, Sundsvall are not in any type of form to threaten a victory at the Rambergsvallen, nor does their head-to-head record suggest they stand a chance.

Hacken boast superior head-to-head record

  • 16/4/17: GIF Sundsvall 1-2 Häcken

  • 26/9/16: GIF Sundsvall 0-0 Häcken

  • 24/4/16: Häcken 0-1 GIF Sundsvall

  • 19/10/15: Häcken 3-1 GIF Sundsvall

  • 13/4/15: GIF Sundsvall 1-1 Häcken

  • 4/11/12: GIF Sundsvall 1-2 Häcken

Everything going wrong for Sundsvall

Joel Cedergren's GIF Sundsvall side found themselves in the relegation playoff place before the weekend's round of games. The visitors have been in poor form of late too, picking up just one league win in nine outings, and aren't expected to do much as the travelling team when looking at their record for this season.

Sundsvall's 2-0 win away to Orebro on May 17 is their only victory on the road this season. They've picked up just seven points from a possible 27 away from home and come into Monday's meeting off the back of three defeats and a draw.

Sundsvall last four away games in the Allsvenskan

  • 27/5/17: Kalmar FF 3-0 GIF Sundsvall

  • 3/6/17: Oestersunds FK 3-1 GIF Sundsvall

  • 10/7/17: Djurgaarden 2-1 GIF Sundsvall

  • 22/7/17: Halmstads BK 2-2 GIF Sundsvall

Häcken is in much better form than that of their opposition and have a fantastic head-to-head record to further given themselves confidence. There's still a lot of competition for a top-three place in the Swedish Allsvenskan this season, but a win on Monday will ensure they won't be more than three points off the pace.

Hacken's home form hasn't been perfect, but with Sundsvall having proven so ineffective away from home and having greatly struggled for goals, Monday's meeting could be a straightforward victory for Mikael Stahre's Häcken. The last time the two sides met in the league, Häcken earned a 2-1 win away at the Norrporten Arena on April 16, courtesy of goals from Alexander Farnerud and Alhassan Kamara.

So can Hacken get one over Sundsvall again to keep their top-three aspirations in check?
