Chelsea aiming to secure Premier League title at the Hawthorns

Friday 12th May 2017
As the season approaches its final stages, us football fans start to reflect on how successful our teams have been. One team that has raised the bar with quality this season is Chelsea.

Since Antonio Conte's arrival, Chelsea FC has really gelled this season. He seems to have moulded his squad the way he wanted and it is certainly paying off big time. Chelsea have only lost five league games all season. Their most recent defeat was against Manchester United, 2-0, at Old Trafford. That was in April but since then it has been a smooth ride.

Four consecutive wins put the spring in Chelsea's step, giving them their seven-point advantage ahead of Tottenham Hotspur. The league leaders most recent match was a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough. This, unfortunately, meant Boro were sent back down to the Championship. It just goes to show how tough the Premier League can be.
The English top flight is a harsh league from time to time; Chelsea hasn't always been at their best. In recent times, the Blues have struggled, notably in 2015/16 under the reign of Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink. They came 10th in the league - changes needed to be made.

In came Antonio Conte. The Italian thought it would bring a new challenge after his time managing the Italian national side. But the challenge he has faced so far has been made to look easy. Conte's success began when he opted to use three centre-backs with two wider players. The wing backs, Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses, cover the defence from out wide but also contribute to attacks.

This campaign, Chelsea have had some game changing players, such as Eden Hazard, Pedro, Diego Costa and PFA Player of the Year, N'Golo Kante. They have the best attack in the league, scoring 75 times. Most of their goals have come from their main striker, Costa, who has 20 so far this season. With Eden Hazard finding the net an impressive 15 times.
Chelsea have the third-best defence in the Premier League, which is helped by having some strong characters at the back. Players like Gary Cahill, David Luiz, and Cesar Azpilicueta. They also have talented young defenders, Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake, when needed. Chelsea has some promising youth coming through. It increases the depth of their squad.

Tonight, Chelsea take on West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. It could be a crucial encounter: Conte's side will secure the title with a victory. The seven-point lead over Spurs means if they don't win against the Baggies, we will have to wait a bit longer to find out which team will be crowned Premier League champions.

If Chelsea fail to win tonight, all eyes will be on Tottenham's game against Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Antonio Conte will make sure his plans are double checked for the game against West Brom. Everything will be carefully thought through, and he will want to ensure Chelsea produce that important win to secure the title. Tonight could be special for the blues.

For my sins, I'm a season ticket holder at Stoke City, I have been proud to watch them for over 20 years. I follow most of the UK leagues and the major European ones too, and I've been told that I talk way too much about football.
