Chelsea step up pursuit of Franck Kessie with second bid rejected

Sunday 29th January 2017
Franck Kessie is a name that is ever growing amongst footballing fans across the world, with the highly rated 20-year old being referred to as the next Yaya Toure and is in great demand right now.
Chelsea are one of the main Clubs chasing the talent and have reportedly just stepped up their interest in the youngster, tabling a £32 million bid, increasing from the original offer of around £27 million only a few days prior.

Serie A side Atalanta are holding firm on their starlet, holding out for the maximum amount of money with other Clubs also in hot pursuit of him. Manchester United, Liverpool and Roma are said to be looking at making an offer.

Calciomercato reported this week that the player's agent was in fact in London visiting Chelsea representatives regarding talks about Kessie. If the two Clubs can agree on a fee, this is a deal that will be sewn up.

So what is the big fuss surrounding this young player? Well, he's already got a reputation in world football amongst pundits, the media and supporters who are touting him to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

He certainly has a raw and natural talent, being very comfortable and strong on the ball and having the ability to be effective going forward and defending.

The Ivorian-born player was noticed at an early age and was drafted from the Ivory Coast youth setup to represent the full senior team at the tender age of 17, playing the whole game in a victory over Sierra Leone. He has been ever present since then gaining 10 International appearances already having only just turned 20.

He's currently lighting up the Italian Top tier turning out for Atalanta bossing their midfield, making 15 appearances so far for his Club this season and scoring 6 goals along the way. He also enjoyed an impressive loan spell last year with Cesena scoring 4 goals. He certainly has an eye for goal as well as being a midfield powerhouse.

He's now in a situation where he is in high demand and has really got the attention of the Worlds biggest football Clubs, making him a very sought after talent and the subject of a high money offer from the current Premier League leaders.
Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte has grown concerned about the lack of Squad depth currently in his side, with The Blues selling John Obi Mikel, Oscar and likely to be losing both Branislav Ivanovic and Asmir Begovic this month as well. It's unclear whether Conte will want to bring Kessie in during this transfer window, but he is certainly a prospect that he admires and wants to add to his current crop of talent.

Although he has also announced that both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah will be staying at The Bridge for the rest of this season, refusing interest from Clubs wanting to loan the pair of Midfielders. So could the addition of Kessie and other such players be a burden on their progression? Conte seems to like both players who are gaining playing time this season but have mainly been left on the bench.

This story is likely to gather more pace over the coming days.
