5 contenders to displace Real Madrid as kings of Europe

Friday 7th September 2018

Real Madrid is the reigning conquerors of Europe. However, securing a fourth Champions League title in five years is a little unrealistic. Zinedine Zidane's tactical brilliance played a vital role in meritorious achievement. The Frenchman called it a day at the Santiago Bernabeu three months ago. That's not all. Los Blancos have lost their most instrumental player to Juventus.

Starting the new season, Madrid tasted defeat to fierce rivals Atletico in the UEFA Super Cup. They had an opportunity to improve the squad this summer but remained silent during the transfer window.  A big-money move for either Eden Hazard, Neymar or Robert Lewandowski would have made Real strong enough to protect their crown.

Since Los Merengues aren't prepared for Europe this campaign, the trophy is almost certain to switch sides. Here are five strong favourites to lift the Champions League next May.
