Predicting the rest of the season

Wednesday 11th January 2017
Predicting the future is usually reserved for those who read Tarot Cards and write horoscopes but I thought I'd try my hand at guessing what's going to happen in the second half of the season.

Granted, this is all guesswork but it might be worth checking the bookies for odds on these predictions!

Zlatan doesn't finish as Man Utd top scorer

Put simply, Zlatan has been instrumental to Manchester United's successes this season – though they haven't been numerous. His goals and sheer class have brought stability to Mourinho's first season but there's no guarantees the big Swede will top the scoring charts for United.

Anthony Martial has looked more threatening than any other player for United in the last few weeks and will no doubt challenge Zlatan come the end of the season. The outside bet would be Marcus Rashford, who has remembered his shooting boots in the last few games, but the smart money is on Martial.

Chelsea win the League with two games to spare

It may seem as though Antonio Conte's side will run away with the Premier League this season but it's a long season when you factor in cup and European competitions. Diego Costa won't stay fit for the whole season nor will he avoid suspension meaning Chelsea need an alternative – Fernando Llorente has been mentioned but don't count on it.

A few losses/draws and a couple of scrappy 1-0 victories as the season nears its end and Chelsea will wrap up the title – just a little later than expected.

Alexis Sanchez signs a new deal at Arsenal

Arsenal's Chilean talisman had a tantrum of epic proportions after the 3-3 draw with Bournemouth sparking the media into a frenzy of transfer rumours and Wenger fall outs. Frankly, Sanchez was showing frustration at how the game ended as far as I can gather.

Arsenal was moving into Bournemouth's half just as the final whistle was blown and Sanchez was in acres of space – clearly, he was bemoaning not receiving the ball in time for one last attack and not the result. He will sign a new deal worth a lot of money – simple.

Leeds United secure promotion to the Premier League

A bold claim but a valid one nonetheless. Garry Monk's Leeds side look a fearsome prospect in the Championship and I can't see anyone stopping them in the playoffs should it come down to it. There's still time for the Elland Road side to usurp Brighton in second place for an automatic spot – watch this space.

Spurs finish below Arsenal – AGAIN!

Arsenal may have a long-standing love affair with the Premier League's fourth place but Spurs have a serious problem finishing a season as strongly as they've started it. 20 games in and they've seven points off the leaders and both Arsenal and Man Utd are hot on their heels despite good form.

Tottenham will finish below Arsenal – consistent as gravity.

Paul Merson mispronounces a player's name for the 1000th time

Not exactly a prediction – more an observation of Sky Sports' least capable pundit. Michael Owen might be annoying on BT Sport but at least he can speak without getting every single name wrong.....
