Dani Alves leaves Juventus – Four highlights of his stint in Turin

Wednesday 28th June 2017
Dani Alves has confirmed rumours that his time at Juventus is over. The former Sevilla defender has left a trail of trophies in his wake and his stint with the Old Lady was no different. Here, we take a look at Dani Alves' time in Turin, the highs, lows and everything in-between.

After six trophy-laden years at Sevilla in which he had racked up five trophies including three in Europe, Dani Alves made the big move to Barcelona. He soon became a household name in Catalonia and eight successful years would follow. However, by the summer of 2016, Alves's contract with Barcelona had run its course and a new challenge beckoned.

Next, Juventus, the Italian giants needed a man with Champions League experience to bolster Massimiliano Allegri's back-line and Giuseppe Marotta, Juventus general manager identified Alves as the perfect man for the job.

A two-year deal was agreed and Dani Alves became a Bianconeri. With half of that contract fully honoured, the Brazilian defender has announced he is leaving Juventus. Here are a few highlights from his time with the 2017 Champions League finalist.

November 2016 – Dani Alves suffers a broken leg

In a Serie A game between Juventus and Genoa, Dani Alves had to be stretchered off the pitch after a nasty collision with Lucas Ocampos of Genoa. Scans would later reveal that the Brazilian right-full-back had suffered a compound fracture of the fibula of his left leg.

It was a gloomy day for both Dani Alves and Juventus. The Old Lady had lost both the game (3-1) and their defender who was just beginning to acclimatise in Italy. Nevertheless, in less than five months, the Brazilian made a full recovery and went on to have a great season.

9th May 2017 – Dani Alves Man of the match performance vs Monaco

It was no surprise that the second most decorated footballer in European competitions, behind Paolo Maldini, produced a stunning performance to help Juve reach their second Champions League final in three years.
The Champions League semifinal second leg between Juventus and Monaco saw Dani Alves produce his best performance in a Bianconeri jersey. The former Barca defender who had assisted twice for Gonzalo Higuain's double in the first leg produced a brilliant effort to put Juve one up in the second.

The Brazilian who holds a Spanish passport was duly named the Man of the Match. Alves ended the 2017 Champions League as the defender involved in the most goals – seven (three goals and four assists).

May 2017 – Dani Alves wins Coppa Italia

In May, Dani Alves lifted his first piece of silverware in Italy – it was none other than the Coppa Italia. By so doing, Alves made history with Juventus; helping the Turin giants become the first team to win the Coppa Italia three times in a row.
Alves who has won the equivalent of the same title, four times in Spain, produced a stellar performance in the final; he scored to help Juve to a 2-nil victory against Lazio.

May 2017 – Alves wins Scudetto

Dani Alves crowned his achievements in Italy by winning the Italian Serie A title with the Old Lady. Although the 34-year-old didn't feature too prominently in the Serie A, he still managed to make fifteen starts; hence, he was as much an integral member of Juve's 33rd Scudetto winning team as any.

Dani Alves had a beautiful year in Turin. In a social media message posted earlier, Alves had this to say:

“I would like to thank all the Juventus fans for the year I've had, to my team-mates who welcomed me like the professionals they are, for a club that wins and reaches finals.

"Today our professional relationship ends and I will carry with me all of those who with love and a true heart make Juve a great club."
