Does RVP Mean T.I.T.L.E?

Friday 17th August 2012
Reading that Robin van Persie has completed his move to Manchester United had me, and many others, thinking about next season. The £24m transfer to Arsenal to United was a good deal for both parties and a brave one from the Gunners as they are already light years behind the Old Trafford giants. Because of this deal, Wayne Rooney may have to play the deeper role that he's spoken of in recent times and if RVP can stay fit, this could prove to be a title winning punt from the great Sir Alex Ferguson.

Last term, Man City won the title in the final seconds on goal difference. Now, if United had Robin van Persie's goals last season, would it have been a different story? I think so.

In 1999, United had possibly the best striking options in Europe with Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham, all of whom scored goals. That season they won the treble. Now they have Rooney, RVP, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and until he leaves Dimitar Berbatov. These are easily their best striking options since that famous history-making team of '99.

Fergie has excelled in building team after team after team. Never have they had a long trophy-less trek like Arsenal, he has always made successful teams. And now is no different. From back to front, they have class. Last season, despite being under-par for long periods, they managed to break away into an eight point lead, which they threw away. Fergie loses titles, but he won't hang around and watch City do it again. His boys will be bigger, better and more consistent this time around.

Robin van Persie carried the Gunners for most of last season, but without his goals and assists they may have struggled for top six, let alone top four. United don't need someone to carry them, merely a player to take the pressure off the likes of Rooney and Ashley Young. RVP is a proven performer and will thrive off playing with better players. People mention Chelsea's signings and the fact Man City have a very strong squad but I know where my money is going; United all the way.
