Dutch Eredivisie Round-Up: Week 25

Nine weeks to go for the Dutch Eredivisie and the top 5 is getting more and more close together. AZ, FC Twente, PSV, Ajax, Heerenveen and even Feyenoord still have a shot at the title. AZ, FC Twente and PSV are still active in the Europa League as well. FC Twente beat the German side Schalke '04 with 1-0. AZ beat Udinese 2-0. PSV lost away to Valencia 4-2 but still has a shot at reaching the next round.

Roda JC - VVV-Venlo 3-1

Roda JC put an end to VVV's winning streak. relegation-threatened VVV won their last four matches in a row, but weren't able to win in the "Limburgse Derby". VVV went 1-0 up in the first half thanks to a rebound by Japanese defender Yoshida. In the second half Roda JC struck back with two goals of Syrian goal-phenomena Sanharib Malki. Also Belgian midfielder De Beule scored a goal sealing the 3-1 win.

FC Groningen - Vitesse 1-3

FC Groningen lost their sixth home defeat in seven matches. The first half was pretty boring but Vitesse managed to score right before half time thanks to Van Ginkel.  Ten minutes into the second half Vitesse doubled the score thanks to Jan-Arie van der Heijden. FC Groningen pulled one back from the spot thanks to Dusan Tadic. But in injury time substitute Mike Havenaar scored the 3-1 with a trademark header.

Heracles Almelo - ADO Den Haag 0-2

After eight games without a win, ADO Den Haag finally managed to obtain three points. Heracles Almelo was on December the 9th the last club to be beaten bij Den Haag and now lost to them again.  After 5 minutes ADO was 1-0 up thanks to Toornstra after an enormous error by the Heracles goalkeeper. It took a while for the 2-0 to drop but in the 83rd minute substitute Charlton Vicento scored after again an error by the goalkeeper.

Heerenveen - Excelsior 4-2

SC Heerenveen stayed in the top of the league thanks to a 4-2 win over the number 18 Excelsior. Excelsior went 1-0 up thanks to Te Vrede. But after that it was all one-way traffic and at half time the score was 3-1 thanks to Gouweleeuw, Zomer and Dost. In the second half Excelsior pulled one back thanks to Alberg but it was Bas Dost with his second goal of the night who put the margin back to four. Dost now scored 7 goals in two matches this season against Excelsior.

Nac Breda - PSV 3-1

PSV is completely out of shape. After last weeks 2-6 homedefeat to FC Twente and the midweek's defeat to Valencia they lost on Sunday to low-flying NAC. After 5 minutes PSV scored thanks to Wijnaldum but within 10 minutes after that NAC went 2-1 up thanks to Santi Kolk and Anthony Lurling. Nac-defender Eric Botteghin cleared a ball of the line and PSV-defender Manolev equalled history by receiving his 11th yellow card in one season. He also received a second yellow card which ment a send-off for the PSV Man. In the second half Nac put the margin to two thanks to again Santi Kolk.

NEC - FC Twente 3-1

FC Twente lost their match after they beat Schalke on thursday. Right before half time NEC got a penalty which got converted by Lasse Schöne. After half time  Conboy and Zeefuik made sure NEC went 3-0 up. FC Twente, who beat PSV 6-2 last week pulled one back thanks to Glynor Plet.

Ajax - RKC 3-0

Ajax managed to profit from PSV's and Twente's losses by beating RKC Waalwijk at home 3-0. Ajax wasn't playing at their best but went 1-0 up before half time thanks to captain Jan Vertonghen. In the second half Siem de Jong scored the 2-0 after a misplaced pass by the RKC defense. Right before full time Ebecilio, who scored a hattrick last week, scored with a header to put the score to 3-0.

Feyenoord - FC Utrecht 1-1

Feyenoord lost some crucial points against FC Utrecht. The home team went 1-0 up very quickly thanks to Otman Bakkal who tapped in a rebound after Jordi Clasie hit the crossbar. After that the level dropped but in the second half substitute Cedric van der Gun scored FC Utrecht's equalizer. Feyenoord ended the match with 10 men after a red card for Nelom.

De Graafschap - AZ 0-2

League leaders AZ had a lot of trouble with De Graafschap in the first half. In the second half AZ struck thanks to Rasmus Elm who scored directly from a corner kick. It was the third time this season Elm accomplished this. In injury time AZ went 2-0 up thanks to a goal from Falkenburg.
