Four players that could bid Manchester United goodbye
Manchester United started the season fully prepared to attack the campaign ahead as Jose Mourinho looked to lead his team to dominate the Premier League as well as the Champions League. However, the Red Devils have faded on both fronts having recently been evicted from the Champions League in a humiliating 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the round of 16.
The FA Cup remains their only hope of lifting a silverware this season, but it remains to be seen if they can beat Tottenham and Chelsea to the punch. With this season almost out of grasp, Mourinho will do well to start considering reinforcement for next season and to do this some players will have to leave.
Without further ado, here are four players Mourinho need to terminate their contract in the summer:
Luke Shaw's stock has slid so much at Old Trafford as he has had little impact on the team.
Having recorded just 39 appearances since he signed for United back in 2014, one can rightfully claim that the England international has failed to live up to expectations at the club.
Jose Mourinho does not seem ready to trust him with a regular starting berth, and with Ashley Young’s impressive form, Shaw is likely to remain a fixture on the sideline next season if he remains at United.
Chris Smalling, the United fans’ heartthrob, has lost a large part of his fan base at Old Trafford. He is still well-liked by fans, but a majority of the club’s supporters would prefer to see him replaced as his play has suffered a serious decline in recent times.
Mourinho has regularly featured Jose Mourinho this season - mostly because the squad has no better option - but with the approaching summer transfer window, the Portugal international will seek to find a perfect fit for the centre-back position who will complement Eric Bailly well enough – possibly Raphael Varane.
Jones' level of performance has been fluctuating this season, but unlike his countryman, Chris Smalling, his career is still young and that is enough reason for Mourinho to relieve him of his contract this summer.
Despite having played 21 Premier League games this season (mainly due to Bailly’s long sta on the treatment table) Jones is expected to make use of the exit doors at the Old Trafford with Mourinho setting up ground for a challenge with Manchester City next season.
Anthony Martial leaving Manchester United will definitely cause an uproar among the Red Devils fans as he has been projected as the club’s next big star having matched Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s record upon his transfer to United from Monaco.
He has proven to be a talented player on several occasions since he signed for United, but he has not been given enough playing time to fulfil his potential thus giving Juventus, who are reportedly hot on his heels, the go-ahead to offer for him.
With Alexis Sanchez now at Old Trafford, United are likely to jump at a good offer for the Frenchman.
