Free Scoring Argentina Should Have Too Much For Plucky Bosnians in Rio

Sunday 15th June 2014
One of the favourites for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil enters the fray on Sunday evening with punters getting the first chance to lay their eyes on the highly touted Argentina team. The South American side have been well fancied for World Cup glory for some time now but the time for talking is over as they face off against a very good Bosnia team in Group F. The match will be played at the world famous Maracana Stadium and it should be a fascinating one with plenty of attacking talent on display for both sides.

Argentina will of course attract most of the attention ahead of this one and rightly so given the quality of their squad. Lionel Messi is clearly the key man and many are predicting that the Barcelona forward could be ready to grab the tournament by the scruff of the neck in the same way that compatriot Diego Maradona did back in 1986. Messi clearly has the talent to do just that and lead Argentina to glory in this World Cup although so far during his career, he has tended to save his best form for his club team. He will be desperate to put that right during this tournament with a World Cup on his home continent a great opportunity for him and with that in mind, Messi is a short price to hit the ground running open the scoring on Sunday night.

Messi may be the star name for Argentina but they have attacking flair all over the pitch with Man City striker, Sergio Aguero and Real Madrid winger Angel Diu Maria, expected to support Messi up front. Add to that the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Ezequiel Lavezzi of PSG, and it's easy to see why many are tipping them to go all the way. They may not have quite the star names defensively but the likes of Pablo Zabaleta and Ezequiel Garay are more than capable and should give them a solid base when it matters in the knock out stages.

Argentina won both their warm-up matches prior to the World Cup without conceding a goal and unsurprisingly they are fancied to take the three points here. Punters who do fancy taking a short price about an Argentina success against the Bosnians can currently get a price of 4/9 with Bet365 which does highlight their expected dominance.

Bosnia may not be the most fashionable of teams in this World Cup but fans and punters can rest assured that they are not here just to make up the numbers. They performed excellently during qualification to make it through to Brazi,l losing just one game in the process and scoring an impressive 30 goals in just 10 games along the way. That more than proves their attacking quality with Man City striker Edin Dzeko the figurehead of their team and European football fans will know that he is more than capable of popping up with a goal on Sunday night.

Dzeko is not alone though with plenty of support around including from Miralem Pjanic who is coming off of an excellent season in Italy with Roma in Serie A. Pjanic is an elegant midfielder who is more than capable of going past players as he showed to a great effect when scoring one of the goals of the season against Milan back in April (If you haven't seen it, google it!). Pjanic will be a danger to Argentina and if he can link up with Dzeko, it is easy to see Bosnia ruffling a few feather at the Maracana this weekend.

Plenty of neutral fans will be cheering on Bosnia as their second team during this World Cup but they face a very tough assignment in their first game. They have nothing to lose which may help them and punters who do want to back Bosnia to beat the mighty Argentina can currently get a price of 7/1 with the majority of online bookmakers.

All the signs suggest that goals are on the menu for this interesting clash between two very good teams in Rio with attacks set to be on top. Argentina are the main focus and it is impossible to ignore the overall attacking talent they possess with a striker like Carlos Tevez of Juventus deemed not good enough to even make the squad. Bosnia have enough in their locker to score on Sunday evening but overall it is impossible to back against Argentina here, with a 3/1 win for the South American team available at an attractive looking price of 13/1 with Bet Victor.
