The incredible rise of Hull City's Jarrod Bowen

Monday 2nd October 2017
Jarrod Bowen has burst onto the scene at Hull City this season. He has scored 7 goals in 11 games and is the Championship's joint-top scorer, alongside Bristol City's Bobby Reid.

Jarrod Bowen is a name that few people knew before the start of this campaign, however, he has played in every Hull game so far. The 20-year old striker has also been one of the best players for his struggling side.
Bowen began his career with hometown club, Hereford United. He broke into their first-team at just 16 years old. The youngster attracted a lot of attention from clubs up the football pyramid after scoring his first goal against Alfreton, in April 2014. However, despite Hereford avoiding relegation in the Conference that year, they were expelled from the division due to financial issues.

Bowen then left to join Hull City in July 2014. The Tigers were in the Premier League and under the management of Steve Bruce. Hull's new striker became a key player for the U18s, and then later the U21s. As a result, he was given his first-team debut last season in a League Cup game against Exeter City. Bowen went on to make nine appearances for Hull in 2016/17 season, earning his Premier League debut against Watford last October. When the Tigers were relegated last campaign, many expected him to be given more first-team chances in the Championship. He has since received further opportunities to impress - the young forward has grabbed them with both hands.
Bowen was in prolific form for Hull during pre-season. He scored during the 1-0 win against Benfica in a friendly at the Estadio Algarve - it excited many Tigers' fans, who knew they had a special player on their hands.

Bowen was then in the starting XI for the season's opening league game against Aston Villa, played at Villa Park. Hull trailed 1-0 at half-time after Gabby Agbonlahor opened the scoring, however, their talented youngster equalised, scoring his first ever goal in amber and black. He then added another goal to his tally when his side faced QPR away, latching onto a Seb Larsson ball to poke it past goalkeeper, Alex Smithies. The week later Hull defeated Bolton Wanderers, 4-0, at the KCOM Stadium, with Bowen bagging a brace. He has since scored away to Fulham, at home to Preston and then against Birmingham City, where the Tigers ran riot, hammering the Blues 6-1.
There is no doubt that under new boss Leonid Slutsky, Hull have had a tough start to life back in the Championship. They have only won 3 games in 11 and sit 17th in the table. Nevertheless, after the emphatic victory over Birmingham, many supporters believe their club has now turned a corner.

Hull fans would have been over the moon when Bowen signed a new 3-year deal last week. If his impressive form continues, however, bigger clubs will no doubt show interest in signing him in the near future. At the age of just 20, his performances will not go unnoticed. The Tigers are hoping that Jarrod Bowen continues his prolific form in a Hull City shirt for many years to come.
