What Kylian Mbappé would bring to Real Madrid

Monday 10th July 2017
In this year's summer-long transfer saga, Kylian Mbappé has been subject to ample amounts of interest from Europe's elites. Clubs such as; Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus, Barcelona & Arsenal have all shown signs of interest in the 18-year old. However, the front runners of the saga seem to be Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have fed the media on a daily basis with updates about the deal and why they're so confident of landing the Monaco forward. New reports suggest that a transfer bid north of £120m would be enough for the Ligue 1 club to let go of their star man.

Here's what Kylian Mbappé would bring to Real Madrid.

A much-needed Left Winger

As much as I am a Cristiano Ronaldo fan, I will be the first to admit that the 32-year old's effectiveness on the left flank is diminishing. His pace and flashy nature of a few years ago is no more, now, he's at his best in the 18-yard box running onto a cross.

The Portuguese icon can no longer fulfil the duties of a competent left winger, a winger that must track back as well run at defenders in a system cultured by Zinedine Zidane. The star forward's declining powers on the wing has even forced Zidane to switch to a 4-4-2 on several occasions, just to compensate for Ronaldo's refusal to stay wide.

The signing of Kylian Mbappé would solve that problem completely. Although he loves to score, Mbappé is perfectly capable of assisting his fellow teammates. In a team centred around Ronaldo, the Frenchman would be playing a supporting role to the icon; something he would have little qualms about.

The 18-year old has never shied away from the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo is his favourite player playing today. That respect alone would help Mbappé serve Cristiano Ronaldo as many crosses as he desires.

Much like his sporting idol Thierry Henry, Kylian Mbappé is a versatile, wide forward. The Frenchman operates mainly on the left wing, but he also has the capabilities to lead the front line centrally. In today's game, being able to take up multiple positions on the field is vital to success and tactical stability.

Ensuring that players understand different roles negates the impacts of injuries. As a winger/striker hybrid, Mbappé could easily fill in at either of the three forward positions, taking the pressure off of Bale, Benzema & Cristiano Ronaldo (BBC).
Not only could he cover for them, Mbappé could exceed their outputs altogether. Last season, Gareth Bale only scored 9 goals in all comps, granted he was injured, but that output in 26 games is far from Real Madrid standard. Compare that to Kylian Mbappé's 26 goals & 8 assists and you have a real argument for Mbappé to be a guaranteed starter.

Overall, the teenage sensation brings pace, power, technical ability, a high work rate and goal scoring prowess to the Bernabéu. There's a reason as to why he's the most wanted player on the planet today.
