Match Report: Lyon 3-1 Bordeaux (a.e.t)

Friday 10th February 2012
Lyon needed extra time to see off a resilient Bordeaux side as they came from behind to win 3-1 and reach the Coupe de France Quarter Finals on at a freezing Stade de Gerland.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play as Brazilian forward Jussiê netted after a swift Bordeaux counter attack. Lyon spurned a number of opportunities following the goal, but they eventually did level when Alexandre Lacazette netted as he continued his good run of form.

Bordeaux had Carrasso to thank for keeping them in the tie as he made save after save to take the game to extra time.

Lyon coach Remi Garde responded by chucking on Bafétimbi Gomis and Jimmy Briand. The substitutions worked as both scored to give the home side a 3-1 win.

Lyon controlled the early stages, but could only muster a few long shots from distance that caused Carrasso no harm.

Bordeaux then took the lead, Mamadou Dabo clumsily surrendered possession to Yoann Gouffran, who played a tidy ball through for Jussiê, the Brazilian made no mistake as he fired past Hugo Lloris at the near post. The French keeper will have been disappointed to be beaten so easily.

Yoann Gourcuff, who was making his first start since the winter break, almost produced a moment of class, but his curling free kick flashed past Carrasso's post.

Gouffran then should have doubled his team's lead as Bordeaux worked the counter well. This time Jussiê played in the striker but he could only fire wide.

Gourcuff was the architect of Lyon's equaliser as he found space in between Bordeaux's midfield and defence to chip the ball into the path of Ederson but his header was matched by Carrasso, however he could only push the ball into the path of the waiting Lacazette who tapped home.

Lisandro Lopez thought he had given the home side the lead after latching on to an Ederson through ball, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Carrasso produced another fine save to stop Lacazette before Lopez had another effort ruled out by the linesman.

Cristiano Marques Cris was then fortunate to stay on the pitch, as he was only shown a yellow for pulling down Jussiê as the last man.

It was the two substitutes which eventually made the difference for Lyon as Bordeaux bravely fought through to extra time.

A piece of good fortune set Gomis up to score form a tight angle as Briand's miss kicked shot fell into his path to make it 2-1. Briand then completed the scoring as he turned in Lopez' square pass after some elegant passing from the home side.
