Match Report: Lyon 4-4 PSG (Lyon Fan's Perspective)

Monday 27th February 2012
Eight goals were shared between Lyon and PSG as the visitors equalised in the 90th minute to draw 4-4 at the Stade de Gerland in Ligue 1.

PSG took the lead through Guillaume Hoarau before Bafetimbi Gomis, Lisandro Lopez and Michel Fernandes Bastos all scored inside six minutes just before half time.

Nenê pulled on back but Jimmy Briand restored Lyon's two goal cushion. Marco Ceara gave the visitors hope converting a penalty and then Hoarau dramatically clinched a 94th minute equaliser.

The game started slowly with Lyon controlling the pace of the game, Gomis created the best chance as he forced keeper Salvatore Sirigiru to turn over for a corner. This didn't last long though and PSG stated to build some momentum.

Hugo Lloris was forced into a sharp save to deny Javier Pastore's header but could do nothing to prevent the opener. Lyon switched off to leave Hoarau unmarked on the edge of the box and Jeremy Menez only had to roll the free kick into the Frenchman's path for him to slot into the near post.

It could have been two for PSG but Hoarau wasted the opportunity as he could only place his shot wide. They were made to pay as well with Lyon scoring three times in a remarkable six minutes.

Kim Källström whipped in a delicious ball to the back post, Gomis met it with superb volley to beat Sirigiru from a tight angle. Lyon then took the lead only two minutes later, Bastos caught the PSG defence napping with a fine counter attack before picking out Lopez who made no mistake with the finish.

It was then 3-1 with a goal of the season contender from Bastos. A cleared corner fell to the Brazilian who with fantastic technique fired past the hopeless Sirigiru to send the home fans wild.

PGS did pull one back on the verge of half time, a soft penalty was conceded as Nenê  went down under the challenge from Maxime Gonalons. It was Nenê  himself who stepped up to score the penalty and reduce the damage going into half time.

The home side reinstated their two goal lead as they went 4-2 up. Briand jumped the highest to head in from a Bastos corner.

This prompted a series of changes from Carlo Ancelotti changing his five man midfield to a more attacking formation. It worked as well with Ceara scoring with his first touch just two minutes after coming on. The defender was lurking in space and when the ball was fed into his path he fired past Lloris.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure and it looked like it wasn't going to be there day when Nenê  fired straight at Lloris before Mathieu Bodmer fired wide. PSG were chucking everything at Lyon and even keeper Sirigiru had made his way into the opposition half.

The goal did eventually come to break Lyon hearts. Bodmer swung a looping ball into the box and Hoarau managed to squeeze a header into the near post.

The result leaves Lyon in fifth, six points behind Lille in the third Champions league place while PSG sit in second a point behind Montpellier.
