AS Monaco: Meet the next generation

Tuesday 21st August 2018

Some call it transition, others say it's normal business but clearly AS Monaco is evolving. Once again, the Principality club's top stars have been cherry-picked by bigger European tourists. As usual, they reinvested a meagre sum from the huge returns on promising talent.

Monaco's cadre of youngsters, as expected, failed to match a full strength Paris Saint-Germain last season. Leonardo Jardim's men strived to reach the previous campaign's heights, while also auditioning several top prospects.

This season follows the same script. Les Monegasques will surely miss the expertise of Thomas Lemar, Fabinho, Terence Kongolo, Joao Moutinho, Rachid Ghezzal and Adama Diakhaby. However, there are some interesting new recruits at the Stade Louis II. Not strong enough to shake the Parisian dynasty, yet good enough to at least remain on the continent.

We take a closer look at five Monaco newbies.

If the sport has 11-men on each side, a ball and lasts for 90 minutes then I'll write about it. Simply put, I'm an unrepentant soccer freak that other freaks will, however, call a geek. I do find time for music when not watching the beautiful game, though and have been known to produce the odd track.
