Not Good For Fulham

Tuesday 13th September 2011
As the summer transfer window closed Fulham boss Martin Jol told football followers that he was happy with his summer spending. Whether he will be happy with it come January when he has the chance to do more remains to be seen.

Fulham have not started the season well, dropping points against Blackburn recently highlighting this fact. Fulham should be beating teams like Blackburn and Newcastle and would fancy their chances against Wolves yet those fixtures have only yielded one point.

An opening point against Villa looked like a good start but the recent results have not followed in the same vein.

Has the really early start to the campaign hampered them? Possibly. Do they need to improve? Certainly.

With European commitments too, this season could fast become a long hard slog for Jol's side. Defeats against Twente and Manchester City and Fulham fans could start to get anxious. Anxious fans leads to anxious players and the chance of getting that important result lessens with every game. After Manchester City it's Chelsea before a game against West Brom. Fulham are failing to beat sides of West Brom's calibre but they'll need to find results in games like these in order to stay above water this season.

The campaign is always tough and with European football as a distraction this may well end up being one of the toughest yet for Fulham.
