One For The Future – Adryan Tavares

Tuesday 16th October 2012
This week our youth scout gives us the lowdown on Brazil's next young talent, Adryan Tavares.

The Facts:

Name: Adryan Tavares

Age: 18

Nationality: Brazilian

Club: Flamengo

Position: Attacking Midfielder

The Lowdown:

Adryan Tavares is just 18 years of age but he has already turned down a move to Manchester United in order to sign a new contract at his current club, Flamengo.

The young attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left wing or as a centre forward, was reported as saying "I don't think about going to Europe so quickly, things need to be done step by step."

Tavares has played for Flamengo 20 times and scored 3 goals this season after making his breakthrough from the youth side.

For an attacking midfielder his goal per game ratio with the seniors is not fantastic but a lot of these appearances have been from the bench and at youth level he knew where the goal was.

He was regarded as the key player for Brazil's Under 17s and scored 8 goals in 14 appearances helping his side to the 2011 South American Under 17s Football Championship in the process.

Adryan is a typically Brazilian player as he possesses great technique and attacking verve.

He is known for his flair with his best attributes arguably being his dribbling and acceleration that help him skip away from defenders.

Like most of the best players in the world currently, Adryan is also highly regarded for his free kick taking.

He bent a fabulous, right footed, curling set piece into the top corner against Australia in the FIFA Under 17s World Cup of 2011 which won the game for his side and highlighted his extreme potential with a football.

Adryan has been touted as the next young wonder kid to come out of Brazil and the potential is clear to see.

As he is just 18, he currently wants to stay in his homeland and turn out for the club where Brazilian greats such as Zico and Ronaldinho have both played.

The big question is can Adryan follow in their footsteps?
Alex Anderson
Alex started supporting Arsenal at a young age and witnessed many successful years as a boy, even having the pleasure of supporting 'The Invincibles.' On the other side of this, he has also witnessed the long, painful wait for a trophy and the hurt of seeing his idols leaving the club on a regular basis. His favourite people within football are: Wenger, Vieira, Bergkamp, Fabregas and of course Henry whose signed shirt he has hung up on his wall. Robin van Persie would have been on that list also but we all know the reason for his omission. Alex is currently in his second year at the Univeristy of Central Lancashire where he is studying Sports Journalism and he hopes to get a job within the industry on finishing his degree.
