One For The Future - Davy Klaassen

Saturday 15th September 2012
It's Round and It's White youth scout Alex Anderson gives us the lowdown on Ajax's young starlet Davy Klaassen.

The Facts:

Name: Davy Klaassen

Age: 19

Nationality: Dutch

Club: AFC Ajax

Position: Attacking Midfielder

The Lowdown:

Ajax are renowned for having one of the World's best footballing academies.

De Toekomst which translates as ‘The Future' has produced several world class players over the years including: Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp to name but a few.

In recent years Christian Eriksen has been the most talked about graduate but now Davy Klaassen is grabbing all the headlines.

Klaassen has already featured 6 times for Ajax in the Eredivisie, although 5 were from the bench.

He also joined a list of incredible names when he scored on his league debut for the club brushing shoulders with the already mentioned van Basten and Cruyff.

To add to his league appearances Klaassen has also featured twice for his club in domestic cups and more importantly twice in the Europa League and once in the Champions League.

Getting European experience will stand him in good stead in the future, especially as one of his appearances last term came against Manchester United at Old Trafford, not a bad test for young player.

In recent days Klaassen has been heavily linked with another one of Europe's illustrious sides as AC Milan have reportedly expressed their interest in the young midfield starlet.

They have shown over the summer that they are interested in bringing youth into their squad and if reports are to be believed they are very keen to bring Klaassen, who can also play as a forward, to the San Siro.

It is obviously early days to discuss Klaassen as the next Cruyff, however, his club and of course AC Milan have seen enough to suggest that Klaassen could indeed be one for the future.

Alex Anderson
Alex started supporting Arsenal at a young age and witnessed many successful years as a boy, even having the pleasure of supporting 'The Invincibles.' On the other side of this, he has also witnessed the long, painful wait for a trophy and the hurt of seeing his idols leaving the club on a regular basis. His favourite people within football are: Wenger, Vieira, Bergkamp, Fabregas and of course Henry whose signed shirt he has hung up on his wall. Robin van Persie would have been on that list also but we all know the reason for his omission. Alex is currently in his second year at the Univeristy of Central Lancashire where he is studying Sports Journalism and he hopes to get a job within the industry on finishing his degree.
