One For The Future - Serge Aurier

Tuesday 20th November 2012
This week our youth scout gives us the lowdown on Serge Aurier, a right back playing for Toulouse.

The Facts:

Name: Serge Aurier

Age: 19

Nationality: Ivorian/French

Club: Toulouse

Position: Right Back

The Lowdown:

Aurier started his career at RC Lens and made his debut for the club in 2009 against FC Lorient when he was just 16.

The young right back went on to feature 47 times for the club in all competitions before moving to Toulouse in January of last season after playing half a season with Lens in Ligue 2.

Since his move Aurier has featured 22 times for Toulouse helping them to an 8th place finish in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 1 goal in the process.

Aurier's natural position is at right full back but he is also comfortable at left back or as a wing back on either side as he has played in these positions on occasion for both Lens and Toulouse.

He has also been deployed as a defensive midfielder and right winger during his career showing his versatility as a player.

Aurier's key attributes allowing him to be so versatile are his strength, pace and stamina.

To go with these his defensive attributes are also strong making him a tough prospect to beat with strength, pace or skill.

Aurier was born in Paris and is eligible to play for France but at present has declared himself as Ivorian as it is the nationality of his parents.

At the age of just 19 Aurier has already gained a lot of experience of top flight football and it has been rumoured that Manchester City have been tracking the player's progress.

Aurier has been likened to Bacary Sagna because of his playing style and he could definitely be one to keep an eye on for the future.

Alex Anderson
Alex started supporting Arsenal at a young age and witnessed many successful years as a boy, even having the pleasure of supporting 'The Invincibles.' On the other side of this, he has also witnessed the long, painful wait for a trophy and the hurt of seeing his idols leaving the club on a regular basis. His favourite people within football are: Wenger, Vieira, Bergkamp, Fabregas and of course Henry whose signed shirt he has hung up on his wall. Robin van Persie would have been on that list also but we all know the reason for his omission. Alex is currently in his second year at the Univeristy of Central Lancashire where he is studying Sports Journalism and he hopes to get a job within the industry on finishing his degree.
