This week our youth scout runs the rule over the 16 year old Belgian striker, Zakaria Bakkali, from PSV Eindhoven.

The Facts

Name: Zakaria Bakkali

Age: 16

Nationality: Belgian/Moroccan

Club: PSV Eindhoven

Position: Striker

The Lowdown

Zakaria Bakkali could be the next young Belgian star to take the footballing world by storm.

In recent years, fellow wonder kids, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard have been at the forefront of a promising age of football for Belgium and Bakkali could follow in their footsteps.

The 16 year old striker, who can also play on either wing, possesses ability that will be sure to frighten defenders for years to come.

Bakkali is adept with both feet and even though he has not played for PSV Eindhoven's firs team yet, he has already interested some of Europe's top clubs.

Manchester City were very keen on signing Bakkali when he was just 15 after he was voted the best young player in the world at the 2011 Nike Cup.

He has instead just signed a 3 year contract extension with his current club where it is expected he will get more playing time within the next few years.

Bakkali is only 5ft 5” but possesses great pace and skill on the ball meaning that even with his small stature he is still very hard to tackle.

The young striker is also renowned for having a fiercely powerful shot which means he can punish teams from distance, or when closed down, beat players with his technical ability.

The combination of skills makes him a very interesting prospect for the future and he is already ahead of the curve.

At 16 he is already playing for PSV's under 19's and at international level he has a fine goal scoring record.

He scored 4 in 4 for the under 15's, 5 in 6 for the under 16's and has already scored 3 goals in his first 2 appearances for the under 17's this month.

Like all young players with potential, we will not know how good Bakkali can be until he plays at the top level, but, everything he has done so far suggests he could be a real superstar.

Alex Anderson
Alex started supporting Arsenal at a young age and witnessed many successful years as a boy, even having the pleasure of supporting 'The Invincibles.' On the other side of this, he has also witnessed the long, painful wait for a trophy and the hurt of seeing his idols leaving the club on a regular basis. His favourite people within football are: Wenger, Vieira, Bergkamp, Fabregas and of course Henry whose signed shirt he has hung up on his wall. Robin van Persie would have been on that list also but we all know the reason for his omission. Alex is currently in his second year at the Univeristy of Central Lancashire where he is studying Sports Journalism and he hopes to get a job within the industry on finishing his degree.
