One more position Arsenal need to upgrade
The appointment of Unai Emery has triggered Arsenal into spending. During Arsene Wenger’s tenure at the Emirates, Arsenal are a big failure when it comes to recruiting fresh legs which was one of the major setbacks for Wenger.
Unai Emery is a very decisive manager. He knows what he needs and how to get them. The manner in which he wrap up transfer business in a speedy rate is amazing. He already completed five major signings even before the Preseason friendlies started.
At 36, Petr Czech is no more the shot stopper he used to be. Emery bought Bernd Leno to solve the problem between the sticks for Arsenal. The defense also needs solidity and the introduction of Sokraris and Lichtsteiner will add the needed strength to the defense. The Gunners also lack a strong man who will shield the defense and handle the dirty jobs of the game. Lucas Torreira won't mind being dirty and will handle the physical aspect of the game for the Gunners.
With five fresh legs, one might think the Gunners should be done with signing, however. The attack also need upgrading. A frontman isn't the problem, Lacazette and Aubemyang are very fit for that. Mesut Ozil can also attack from the right but who will cause havoc from the left wing?
The departure of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United has made that position vacant but must be filled if Arsenal are looking forward to a great Premier League campaign.
Arsenal don't need to look to far, what they need lies with their North London rivals. Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur is among the very few who still has the quality of a perfect winger. He has been turning heads with his pace and skill ever since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen. His pace helps him in getting past defenders and create chances. And when it comes to handling matters alone, Son don't have problem finding the back of the net.
His ability to use both foot made him more dangerous. A real handful for any defender, Son has all the qualities Arsenal need.
The 26 years old has a release clause of £45 million on transfermarkt, however. The Gunners must be prepared to spend more if they are to convince Spurs to let go of Son, however. If Son didn't work out, that isn't the end of the road for Arsenal. They need to extend their sight to Spain. Ousmane Dembele is another option.
In fact, Dembele is a better choice to Son. He is 5 years younger, has lightning pace and raw skill only few can boast of. Just like Son, Dembele is good with both foot. He can push and shoot with either foot and will give Emery more tactical options because Dembele can attack either from the right of left flanks.
Good things are difficult to get, Arsenal will need to go the extra mile to get Dembele from Barcelona. The Catalan giants hijacked him from Borrussia Dortmund to replace Neymar but hasn't lived up to expectations. The French youngster has managed to score six goals for the Catalans and Ernesto Valverde don't seems to have him in his plans. A serious call by Arsenal might make Dembele realize that it's time to depart Camp Nou.
Julian Brandt is another talent Arsenal can turn to. We all know how difficult and competitive it was when Joachim Low was selecting his World cup squad with a lot of surprise omissions, however. Julian Brandt made the cut though the Germans failed in Russia but Brandt was among the young lads who dazzled in the competition.
His dribbling skill, creativity and prowess in front of goal will add huge depth to Arsenal's attack. And considering his cheap price tag of €40 million (transfermarkt), Arsenal should pull the trigger and get the German from Bayer Leverkusen.
Emery's new Arsenal look good but can be made better and more dangerous with just one more signing. If Arsenal should get any of the aforementioned, expect to see a glistening campaign for the Gunners next season.
