Only Time Will Tell

Friday 15th July 2011
Being a Leeds United fan is sometimes extremely stressful and disappointing, with potential excitement ruined by reality. The transfer window is the period of time in which this is reflected best.

We are a club that has fallen from grace over the last few years and are currently attempting to regain the coveted Premiership status. With this, comes the expectation and the desire for success. Throughout the summer, Leeds have been linked with moves for a whole host of players and these are generally exciting times for a football fan. However, the reality is that these transfers never come off.

It is of the wide belief that current manager Simon Grayson isn't the best when it comes to signing players. However, it is extremely difficult for him to do so, when it seems that Ken Bates will refuse to spend any money. Leeds are still a big club, there's no doubting that, but some players fancying a move to Elland Road are put off by the lack of money and wages offered. On numerous times already this summer, we've missed out on players such as Jonathan Greening, simply because other clubs are willing to spend more.

For me, the end result is clear and I still believe that Leeds United will be staying in the Championship for another season. We came within touching distance last year but have lost three key players from last season's squad, replacing them with just Michael Brown and Paul Rachubka. There is plenty of talk ongoing recently of a potential move to Yorkshire for Coventry's Sammy Clingan but he could simply join the long list of players that we haven't been able to afford. Alexei Eremenko, another rumoured target for Simon Grayson could be a more realistic possibility, with the reduction in asking price.

Nobody knows what will happen. We can only predict the outcome and only time will tell whether the club strengthens its squad enough for success.

Money isn't everything. But you can't do much without it.
