3 right-backs Arsenal should have signed instead of Stephan Lichtsteiner

Tuesday 12th June 2018

Seven days ago, Arsenal signed one of the game's most successful full-backs. Stephan Lichtsteiner arrived on a free transfer from Italian giants Juventus.

With the Gunners defence lacking leadership, the Switzerland international represents a major coup. At 34, though, Lichtsteiner's career is entering its final stages. In an era where youthful exuberance and potential are heralded above all, his signing has been met with much disdain by the Emirates faithful.

As Unai Emery’s first acquisition as Arsenal manager, Lichtsteiner projects a laboured, unexciting future post-Arsene Wenger.

Here are three younger right-backs the Gunners should have opted for.
