Russia 2018 World Cup Preview: Group D

Tuesday 12th June 2018

Thirty-two nations will take part in Russia but just half will be sticking around past the group phase. Group D, however, boast four who should at least make a run towards the last 16 – Argentina, Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria. Sadly, there are just two available spots, making for six tricky, tight-knit and highly-tensed contests.

This group pretty much splits itself. Argentina and Nigeria, inseparable at the World Cup, have only missed each other once. Croatia and Iceland, meanwhile, are familiar foes from the European qualifying series. The 2014 losing finalists, led by Lionel Messi, are favourites to go one better, though, but recent results suggest that is a big ask.

If the sport has 11-men on each side, a ball and lasts for 90 minutes then I'll write about it. Simply put, I'm an unrepentant soccer freak that other freaks will, however, call a geek. I do find time for music when not watching the beautiful game, though and have been known to produce the odd track.
