Sing When You're Winning – Playing Away This Weekend Could Help Pay For Valentine's Day!

Thursday 14th February 2013
FA Cup fever will hit the nation this weekend as there are a number of exciting ties taking place in the fifth round of the competition, but very few of the clashes offer value to anybody looking to have a flutter. There's always the chance of a few upsets too, so the FA Cup preview is in the hands of Steve Claridge whilst we venture into the Football League for three away wins that stand out. If all three win it'll pay over 25/1 with Victor Chandler, potentially providing a return that will more than pay for your Valentine's Day expenditures!

Preston North End v Bournemouth – Away Win @ 11/8

Preston North End suffered their third League One defeat on the spin on Tuesday night when they lost 3-1 to in-form Yeovil Town and since that result, Graham Westley has been relieved of his duties at Deepdale, but things do not get any easier for Preston when they host a rampant Bournemouth side on Saturday who have won five on the bounce.

Brett Pitman has been a revelation since his return to the South coast after a spell at Bristol City and the sharp-shooter has bagged six goals in six games for the Cherries and his goals have helped propel Eddie Howe's side to the top of the division.

It won't be long before Preston will find themselves involved in a relegation dogfight, if they aren't already, but the flourishing Cherries can continue their winning ways whilst adding to the Lilywhites headaches and Victor Chandler's 11/8 looks a juicy price to kick off our treble.

Rochdale v Torquay United – Away Win @ 9/4

Torquay United have racked up a trio of defeats in their last three games, but losses to Cheltenham, Fleetwood and Rotherham aren't too much to worry about as all three are all flying high in League Two and are pushing for promotion.

However, Saturday's clash with Rochdale at Spotland is certainly winnable for Martin Ling's men and their Lancashire rivals are also on a barren run of form and they have not recorded a victory since the end of December and the 9/4 with Victor Chandler for a Torquay win could be the way to go.

The Gulls came out on top 4-2 when the sides met at Plainmoor at the start of the season and if Ling's men can emulate the grit and determination they showed when beating local rivals Exeter City on Sky Sports a few weeks ago then they can topple a misfiring Dale.

Nottingham Forest v Bolton Wanderers – Away Win @ 12/5

Billy Davies' return to the City Ground was expected to breathe life back into Nottingham Forest, but they failed to show any signs of turning a corner as their disappointing form continued with a 2-0 defeat at lowly Bristol City last weekend.

Having lost three in a row, Forest will be hoping that a return to their own patch will galvanise them, but they welcome a Bolton Wanderers side who are fresh from a battling 2-1 victory over rivals Burnley and Dougie Freedman will be eager for his stuttering team to use that as a catalyst to pull away from the bottom half and put some results together.

Forest have struggled since parting company with Sean O'Driscoll and have gradually slipped down the table and the crowd could get aggravated if things continue to go against them and the visiting Trotters could capitalise and the 12/5 about an away win may be the answer to putting together a winning treble.

Mick Bates

Mick is a passionate fan of Coventry City and has watched from the sidelines (and had the privilege of seeing the inner workings during an exciting two years in corporate sales there) to see the once mighty Sky Blues fall from the Premier League, then fail to sparkle in the Championship, relegated from League One and wind up in League Two before winning the most important fixture in football competitions - The Checkatrade Trophy final followed by a heart-stopping promotion back to League One.

As well as supporting the Sky Blues, Mick appreciates all levels of football and loves a good book to keep himself entertained as well as a few hours on FIFA or Football Manager as time allows.

He also keeps an eye on all the major English leagues and regularly enjoys a flutter looking for that elusive treble!
