Three strikers Arsenal should sign if they can't get Kylian Mbappe

Wednesday 7th June 2017
I don't know what's stranger, the fact Arsene Wenger bid £100m for a player or the fact Arsenal actually look capable of signing him. However, with all big deals , fans must be cautious as Kylian Mbappe is a player the whole world is watching.  The only advantage Arsenal currently possess over their competitors is the argument of playing time, but only time will tell if it's not enough of a bargaining chip. In the meantime, we should be looking at alternative targets if the priority one doesn't come through.

Here are three strikers Arsenal should sign if they can't get Kylian Mbappe

Andrea Belotti

Electrifying doesn't even come close to describing Andre Belotti's season for Torino. The 23-year old has netted 26 times in 34 Serie A apps, that's a rate of a goal every 1.3 games, equating to a goal every 118 minutes. Such a strike rate has made him so valuable to the club that the board have inserted a £87m clause into his new contract. It's said that Chelsea and Juventus are closely watching his situation.

He's an out & out poacher, a fox in the box that constantly looks to play on the shoulder of the defender. The forward particularly excels at converting headers and tirelessly pressing opposing defenders. However, his game falls apart when it pertains to link up play. He's more concerned with being on the end of crosses rather than help to produce them.

Andre Silva

To find a 21-year old ready to lead the line for a Premier League club is rare, but Andre Silva seems to be capable of such an achievement. Andre Silva is a gem that doesn't seem to be shining that brightly on the transfer market. The forward excels at link-up play, creating chances for others, finishing and diving headers. He's truly a well-rounded striker that can adapt to most tactical setups.

Seeing as the media love to hype up young players nowadays, it's surprising that Silva's name hasn't been ringing around Europe like Kylian Mbappé's. Perhaps it's just testament to how few people casually watch the Primeira Liga, in which Porto finished 2nd.

For the national team, Silva has also set the scene alight by scoring six goals in seven caps. He's destined to lead Portugal to international glory alongside Cristiano Ronaldo this summer at the Confederations Cup.

Alexandre Lacazette

For the third successive season, Alexandre Lacazette has scored 20+ goals in a league campaign for Olympique Lyon. And for the second successive summer, Alexandre Lacazette is the trending topic of Arsenal's transfer plans.

If Arsène Wenger bottles the £100m+ deal for Kylian Mbappé, they can get just as good a striker for half the fee in Lacazette. West Ham had a £35m bid rejected for the 26-year old last summer, but his fee has seemingly gone up now.

The Frenchman's increase in value has been directly proportional to his performances on the pitches. Lacazette executed a 39.1% conversion rate last season, one of the highest rates in Europe without penalties.

The 26-year forward is a pacey, versatile, clinical and powerful striker that can play anywhere amongst the front three. Wenger would welcome his versatility and instinct to stretch the back line. He's a player that would easily adapt to the physicality of the league and adjust to the possession-based stlye of Arsenal.

Arsenal fan with ample amounts of passion for both Cristiano Ronaldo & Real Madrid. I'm one of those bandwagonist hipster fans that will claim to know everything about football, but only watches the El Clasico outside of the Premier League. Forgive me, I'm trying. Oh yeah, #WengerOut.
