What makes Jadon Sancho such an exciting prospect?

Monday 20th November 2017

In football, everybody is always looking for the "next big thing". Every single agent, manager, or even fan wants to know who will be the next player to dominate the world. Fans from all over the world want to know who might be the next Messi or Neymar.

While we will not know for sure, there is no question there are some talented youngsters coming up in the football world, and some of them could dominate the world sooner than later. One of these highly-touted prospects already represents England at the youth level, and some believe he could be ready to join the senior squad earlier than anticipated. He goes by the name of Jadon Sancho.

It's pretty much a given to say that every semi-hardcore football fan has seen him at least once. YouTube is filled with videos about him, constantly terrorizing opposing defences and shining every time he has the ball on his feet. There's no question he is a special talent. But what makes Sancho such a special player? After all, being compared to established stars such as Messi or Ronaldo is not a small praise. Yet, he seems to fit the bill.

Maybe it's his dazzling speed, one that allows him to get past defenders with ease. Sancho was always known for his blistering pace and his incredible skill, but he has become better with time and right it seems no defender on his age range can stop him. Saying no one in the world can defend him would be a stretch since Sancho is still a work in progress. But with the right mindset and a lot of work, we might be witnessing the making of one of the best wingers in the world.

Or maybe it's his skill. That ability to get past defenders with an unlimited amount of resources, coupled with an out-of-this-world first touch, makes him quite hard to stop even when opposing defences crowd him and limit his range of movement. He always finds a way to get into a good position, and that aforementioned skill tends to put defenders on skates from time to time. Sometimes it's very difficult to know which way he will take, especially when he's running at full speed.

Perhaps it's his goalscoring ability. Despite the fact Sancho is a winger who operates wide and tends to drift towards the outside part of the box, he can score goals at will. He has two goals and one assist in three matches playing for Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League, but there is no question the Bundesliga giants have him on the fast track when it comes to his development. The Englishman is already training with the first-team squad and has played in two Bundesliga games already, using the no. 7 left by Ousmane Dembele.

Only time will tell whether Sancho can reach his ceiling, which is quite high already. But the smart money would be to bet on him. He has dominated on every single level he has played in. And has all the time in the world to get even better.
