Will Jose Mourinho give Andreas Pereira a chance to shine at Manchester United?

Thursday 23rd February 2017
Andreas Pereira has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Manchester United, with the Brazilian making just 12 appearances since he made his debut two seasons ago. At the moment, however, he is making a huge impression whilst on loan at Granada. But will that see him get more game time when he returns in the summer?

The name Andreas Pereira is one United fans are familiar with. The skilful Brazilian has been at the club for some 2-and-a-half-years now but was somehow overlooked by then manager, Louis van Gaal.
The reason Pereira never really got a chance in the first team during the reign of Van Gaal eluded us United fans. The Red Devils' play under the Dutch tactician was rigid and predictable so giving a player like Pereira a chance seemed to be a no-brainer as he would no doubt have added a bit more dynamism and craft to the side. But no, he'd rather use Marouane Fellaini as a number 10 than have Pereira come in.

In the few games that the young forward was given a chance to impress, he showed exactly why the bench isn't the place for him. He bamboozled opposition fullbacks time and time again and made it look effortless. Who can forget the sublime goal he scored against Ipswich Town in the League Cup last season?

Earlier this present term, Pereira accused Van Gaal of going back on his promise of playing him more frequently. Pereira said he persuaded him not to go out on loan reason being that he was going to be getting a lot more game minutes on the field of play.

Well, unless you consider 44 minutes of football a lot of game time, that didn't happen.

Consequently, Pereira was excluded from the Brazil Olympic team who made history in Rio last year; Which must have been tough to take for the young forward.

Not wanting a repeat of that while he is in charge, Jose Mourinho sensibly elected to send him out on loan in a bid for him get a feel for regular first team football.

That move is already paying dividends as Pereira has caught the eye and as a result, the attacker is playing more regularly than he or Mourinho could ever have wished for.

His all-round game has improved tremendously. He is working harder on the pitch, tracking back and fighting wholeheartedly for every ball that comes his way.

In the 23 appearances he has made to date, he has scored four times with three of those coming in his last 4 games.

He has arguably been the standout player at the Spanish club. In spite of all this, one can't help but wonder if that will be enough for him to feature just as regularly for United. Especially due to the long list of quality attacking players Mourinho already has at his disposal.

Notwithstanding, Pereira has revealed Mourinho has been in close contact with him while he has been on loan.Which is always a positive sign for a player.

I, for one, sincerely hope the Brazilian is given a chance to succeed at Old Trafford as he deserves it and is one who definitely has the talents to shine at the Theatre of Dreams.
